South African Broadcasting Corporation’s radio station, Lesedi FM, has revealed some changes to its line-up, effective from 1 April 2024.
“Lesedi FM is pleased to announce the 2024/2025 line up as it continues to position itself as the most trusted source of information, in an effort to retain and attract new listenership,” said the Bloemfontein-based station.
According to the recent announcement, DJ Lovers, real name Lerato Mpopo, will be taking over the popular music show on Saturdays, Local Top 30 from Thabo Mokone. This forms part of the Sesotho-speaking station’s plans to expand its listenership.
Although ‘Thibos‘ as he is affectionally known [Thabo Mokone], has been thrust out of the Local Top 30, he will carry on co-hosting the Rea Thella Afternoon Drive Show alongside Moleboheng Maoela.
“This transition is expected to inject a fresh energy into the show, attracting a diverse audience and bringing a new perspective to the Top 30 music show. Lerato’s ability to connect with listeners and his innate talent for selecting music are sure to make him a standout host, enhancing the overall appeal and success of the show,” read a statement.
Unlike other SABC radio stations that have revealed shocking announcements with their line-up changes, there are no major changes at Lesedi FM, as Monate Breakfast Show co-presenters Seipati ‘Twasa‘ Seoke and Nyakallo ‘Ba2Cada‘ Leine will remain unchanged on the breakfast show slot.
After taking a break for three weeks, Thuso Motaung will host his Sunday morning show, Makgulong A Matala, and he will continue hosting Jwale Ke Nako midday show from Monday to Thursday, 12.30pm to 3pm.
Nkunyana Nkunyana, popularly known as Skuzabell, who managed to impress the management during Motaung’s absence, will step in for Motaung on Fridays.
With Sibongile “Sbosh” Sonop at the helm, Fridays on the mid-morning show ‘Itlhabolle’ are going to be unforgettable. This is according to the station.
“Her enthusiasm and new perspective will help us transition smoothly into the weekend.
said Mandla Mbusi, acting business manager at Lesedi FM, who replaced former business manager, Mmamontha Motaung.
Mbusi strongly emphasized that Lesedi FM’s real impact doesn’t stem from its wide reach to millions, but from the personalized and respectful approach it takes in reaching out to every individual listener within those millions. “Thank you for being loyal to this great brand. Come let’s build and make Lesedi FM great again – Ke Molellwa”.
