Kgalema Motlanthe: ANC has failed our people, there’s no point of return!

Former President Kgalema Motlanthe has slammed the ruling party for its failure to improve lives of South Africans, most particularly the underprivileged.

Motlanthe, who has recently became involved in the party’s processes and its policies, said the ANC has to accept its flaws and failures, while adding that the glorious movement has forgotten its objectives.

“Right at the beginning, people form organisations for a purpose, so for instance, the ANC was formed in 1912 for a purpose, because Africans were excluded from the parliament and policy making process and that was its mission to fight colonialism,” says Motlanthe.

“Our people saw the ANC as the liberator for the struggle and a potent solution to their hardships, as they have placed their faith in the ANC.

“And the ANC itself throughout the years, said is wagging the struggle on behalf of the people, come 1994, when that is [strategic] achieved, we as the ANC, including myself we failed to live upon the principle of serving our people,” he added.

He further pointed out that, corruption, factionalism and undermining key fundamentals objectives of a coherent state has resulted in the total collapse of the once ‘glorious movement‘.

“We carried on as if like we are structured to lead in government but not considering that we do not meet the needs of our people,” said Motlanthe.

“We have to agree that we have failed our people and that there’s no point of a return,” he added.

He also went on to say that the ANC has to be rescued, and this has to do with renewal process and delivering services to the people.

Since 2014 national elections , the ANC’s support base has been crumbling, where the party fall below 60% in the 2019 national elections, and the disaster preceded to the 2021 municipal elections where the party attained 47.5% – a massive 8% drop from their 2016 elections.
