Incoming Free State Premier, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae

The ANC has nominated Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae as the candidate for the Free State Premier, succeeding Mxolisi Dukwana on Thursday, June 13th.

According to the ANC secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, national officias conducted interviews with all ANC Premier candidates.

“Kgalema Motlanthe, as the chairperson of the Electoral Committee, observed all interviews,” added Mbalula.

Interview questionnaire ranged from ethical to capable leadership, as well as the implementation of ANC’s six priorities set out in their 2024 Election Manifesto which include jobs plan; building of industries for an inclusive economy; tackling the high cost of living; investing in people; defending democracy and advancing freedom; and building a better Africa and world.

They also interviewed candidates on building a developmental state through a capable, effective local government; protection of human rights and dignity of women, children and the LGBTQIA+ persons as to promote social cohesion.

Based on the above principles and the interviews conducted, the national officials decided Maqueen letsoha-Mathae should be the ANC Premier in the Free State.

Letsoha-Mathae is a South African politician who served in the Free State as an MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport. She was appointed to the position on March 14th, last year. A day earlier, Letsoha-Mathae was sworn in as a member of the Provincial Legislature. It is anticipated that she would lead her Province with zeal and commitment.

The official swearing-in-ceremony took place during today’s session in the Provincial Legislature.
