On Thursday, 16 September 2021, the accused, Jeanette Jordan (63), appeared before the Welkom Magistrates’ Court facing charges of fraud.
She was arrested on the same day by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Welkom.
It is all alleged that in the course of April 2017, Jordan used false tender documents from the Department of Health to borrow money from a well-off person and could not pay it back.
As a result, the victim suffered a total loss of R510 000.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks for further investigation, which resulted in the arrest of the accused.
The accused was granted a R5 000 bail, and the case was remanded to Thursday, 07 October 2021, to be transfer to the regional court.
