According to the Free State Department of Health’s Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi, the Province has reached its Covid-19 peak.
The Department has expressed concern over an upsurge of COVID-19 infections as prior to the past two weeks, there has been an increase of 500 cases detected on daily basis.
Mvambi says Covid-19 cases in the province will still increase after the Covid-19 peak, due to a time lag.
Data trends show that Covid-19 deaths lag behind surging infections by at least two weeks.
Mvambi says the department has conducted site monitoring at various hospitals across the province and all systems are good to go as there are sufficient beds in healthcare facilities.
The Departments has advised citizens to register to vaccinate, and those who already registered to go to health facilities to vaccinate.
“For 60 years and older the target has been two hundred and eighty-eight thousand and we are now at 45 percent,” statement read.
“We need to get more of these senior citizens to the vaccination sites.
“There are many theories at why this is happening, others are saying that the older persons are not allowed by their next of kin who are holding their IDs or means of getting into the vaccination sites. Many people are still playing wait and see,” statement further read.
