A Controversial former attorney is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on April 7, on charges of fraud, contravention of Legal Practice Act and contempt of court.
According to the Free State Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, a 52-year-old was allegedly found in contravention of the legal practice act by rendering legal services when he was disbarred.
“In relation to the complainant, he paid R21 000 to the suspect for representation on his divorce case. In 2021, the complainant discovered the suspect was disbarred and therefore cannot practice as an attorney,” says Singo.
He opened a case against the suspect after learning that he had been disbarred in 2018.
According to Welkom police Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti, an investigation was initiated by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Welkom, and the suspect was summoned on 13 March 2023.
