The forgotten African People’s Convention (APC) leader Themba Godi says his party will restore the decaying Free State Province by reinstating agricultural projects and re-opening factories and closed mines in the province.
Speaking during the party’s election manifesto held at the Hope of Glory Global Church in QwaQwa yesterday, Godi said despite the province being well known as the breadbasket of the country for its grain production and mineral sector, the state of the province has deteriorated over the years.
Godi is adamant that his party will be represented in parliament post the 2024 national elections set to take place on May 29.
APC lost their single seat in the National Assembly in 2019 in which the party leader then referred to it as an “unfortunate turn of events”. This was after the party failed to attract enough votes required for a seat in parliament.
APC received 19 593 of the vote – approximately 0.11%, roughly 20 000 votes short of the required minimum.
Speaking to the convened church members in QwaQwa, Godi said his party will be the first to make history for making it back into parliament.
“APC is registered to contest in six provinces, for us Gauteng is the battle ground and we are putting a lot of effort into Gauteng as the biggest province in the country.
“But in all the provinces that we have registered to contest, our intention is to win, is to ensure that the APC is represented and my being here since yesterday is to consolidate the ground for APC and to ensure that come the 29th of May, the Free State is one of the provinces that the APC has representation,” said Godi.
