A 49-year-old admin clerk at Dihlabeng local municipality has been released in jail on a conditional bail of R500, following her arrest for allegedly defrauding the municipality with over R190 000.
The official, Heleen Cornelia Kapp, is facing charges of fraud, money laundering and theft.
The accused appeared before the Fouriesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 April.
It is alleged that Kapp, was involved in fraudulent activities where she stole an amount of more than R190 000 from the Fouriesburg Unit for her own benefit.
According to Free state Hawks Spokesperson captain Christopher Singo, the matter emanates from 2014 and 2017.
“The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein which culminated to the arrest of Kapp on Tuesday,” said Singo.
The case against Kapp was postponed to Friday, 29 April for Regional Court appearance in Bethlehem.
The accused was released on a R500 bail.
