Another shocking incident in the country has triggered, as another branch of government, the Constitutional Court has came under attack.
A man allegedly to be in his late 30s has been arrested after using a hammer to smash windows at the country’s apex court on Wednesday, 05 January.
According to News24, the provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the man had been charged with malicious damage to property.
“When police instructed him to stop, he did not stop, and they fired a warning shot, and he was arrested.”
Netshiunda said police were still investigating the motive behind the incident.
The Judges Matter which is an independent transparency project that monitors the appointment of judges, their discipline and misconduct and the governance system of the judiciary in South Africa, has labelled this level acts as unlawful.
“Judges Matter condemns this outrageous attack on the Constitutional Court building as a symbol of our judiciary and constitutional democracy in South Africa,” said the Judges Matter.
Meanwhile, another three-tire key institution of South Africa, the parliament broke out in fire, which led tothe roof of the old National Assembly building to collapse.
