After receiving information about an unconscious man lying at Serope Section, Phahameng, Bultfontein, on Sunday, 21 November 2021, Welkom POP Reaction Team responded.
Lejweleputswa District Corporate Communication, Captain Stephen Thakeng, said members found an unconscious man and called Medical Emergency Services personnel which took the man to Bongani Hospital in Welkom.
“Subsequently, members interviewed residents in the vicinity about possible suspects. Preliminary investigation led them to an suspect working at a farm towards Wesselsbron, “stated Captain Thakeng.
Police then visited the identified farm and requested the farmer to interview employees on Monday, 22 November 202.
“They interrogated suspect employee, took him to Bultfontein SAP and informed personnel members that he stoned a victim,” added Captain Thakeng.
Members arrested the 27-year-old Vuyo Mochacho for attempted murder.
Further investigation revealed the man belonged to a Born To Kill gang, also known as BTK.
Suspect appeared before Bultfontein Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 24 November 2021. The case against Mochacho has been postponed to Wednesday, 01 December 2021, for bail application.
