A 43-year-old Bloemfontein man is in hot water for contravening the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.
The suspect was served with court summons on Monday, 8 January 2024.
According to Captain Christopher Singo, a preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) uncovered the suspects’ alleged tax evasion where he failed to register a company for Value Added Tax (VAT) which resulted in SARS losing more than one million rand.
“The incident took place over the period between 2020 and 2021,” said Singo.
He further added that the matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein, their swift response led to summons being served.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on February 26.
