News of veteran musician Tshepo Tshola’s death has sent shockwaves through the country as tributes pours in.
The music fraternity woke up to sad news on Thursday, 15 July 2021, to learn of the passing of music icon Tshepo Tshola.
The sensational ‘Ho Lokile’ hit maker’s passing was confirmed by fellow musician Mzwakhe Mbuli on the eve of morning.
Mbuli said he received devastating news of the notable star from his aunt, who is based in Lesotho that Ntate Tshola as he was widely known passed away at around 6am.
“We were told that he was fine just a few weeks ago, as he even attended the funeral of a close family member in Lesotho,” said tearful Mbuli.
In a released statement by Tshola’s family, it stated that Sankomota’s world-renowned Village Pope, succumbed to Covid-19-related complications in Teyateyaneng, Lesotho.
It is alleged that Tshola tested positive for Covid-19 prior to his death.
Condolences are pouring in from local celebrities. Actress Terry Pheto said: “My late dad and I loved Ntate Tsepo Tshola so much. This is so sad. Rest in peace and thank you for the beautiful music Ntate.” The 67-year-old Tshola, who was affectionately known as the Village Pope, had a singing career spanning over 40 years. His hit list consists of classic hit tracks such as Shine Your Light, Nonyane and Ntate.
Lesotho based TV broadcaster and multi-award winning journalist, Nthakoana Ngatana said the 67-year-old Tshola’s death, is a deep loss for the entire African continent, as he was a continental acclaimed icon.
Condolences are pouring in for the late Ntate Tshola from celebrities and political activist. Lesedi FM presenter said: “I was so fortunate to have known you in person Thaema laka(As I used to call him). Everybody that has known Ntate Tshola will tell you the wisdom in the man.”
