Soccer star Shaun Mogaila has been arrested after turning himself in following hit-and-run that killed 9-year-old girl.
Tragedy struck on Wednesday, October 30 on Andrew Mapheto Road when a 9-year-old girl lost her life in a hit-and-run accident allegedly involving Sekhukhune United star Shaun Mogaila.
Sources confirm that Mogaila fled the scene after the fatal crash, with witnesses reporting seeing the child struck by his vehicle, which was later abandoned nearby. Ekurhuleni metro police discovered bottles of alcohol, cocaine, and dagga inside Mogaila’s car, raising concerns about substance use at the time of the incident.
“The child passed away on the spot. A case of culpable homicide, reckless, and negligent driving has been opened,” stated metro police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato.
After several hours in hiding, the 29-year-old Mogaila turned himself in at Rabie Ridge police station on the afternoon of October 30. He reportedly sustained only a minor bruise on his forehead from the crash.
Sekhukhune FC has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. The local community has expressed outrage over the tragic loss, demanding justice for the young girl’s death.
The police investigation is ongoing, with Mogaila currently in custody facing serious charges that could significantly impact his football career and personal life.
