Serial rapist gets 50 years in jail for raping minor, attempted murder and robbery

Hefty sentence has been carried out for Monyakeng’s serial rapist and notorious thug, Motseki Phahlametsing, who raped a minor child and further robbed a store in a horrific scene where he allegedly threatened the owner with a hammer.

The Wesselsbron Regional Court on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old man to 50 years behind bars after he was found guilty on all charges.

Breaking down his sentence, the court unfolded his sentences as follows: “To serve 25 years in jail for rape, 15 years for business robbery, 10 years for attempted murder and six year for minor charges.”

Phahlametsing was arrested in April 2020, following a thorough investigation by the Welkom police.

Lejweleputswa district police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng, says the accused was traced and found at his residence in Monyakeng.

“We conducted a thorough probe that led to the arrest of Phahlametsing. This is after we [the police] were notified of a suspect who allegedly threatened a store owner, and made off with items.

“He then went further to rape a minor child in another section of the township,” says Thakeng.

Thakeng says following the arrest, the accused was then charged for statutory rape, attempted murder, business robbery and other charges.

The mother of the child reported the case to the police.

Evidence presented in court revealed that Phahlametsing indeed was responsible for all charges underpinned.

“He broke into the store, threatened the shop owner with a firearm, robbed them of their products, and later raped th minor child in the other area of Monyakeng before fleeing the scene,” read the evidence in court.

Announcing the sentencing, the regional court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
