Award-winning gospel star Deborah Fraser has died following a short illness, the news surrounding the veteran singer has been confirmed by her family on Sunday.
According to a released statement by Fraser’s family, Deborah died during midday in the presence of her family and friends.
“It is with deep sadness to inform you of the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend and Gospel musician, Dr Deborah Fraser following her her short illness,” an issued statement read.
The Ngeke ngiyeke ukuthandaza hitmaker began her career in 1985 as a backing singer, and recorded her own album in 2000, titled Abanye bayombona. The album sold over one million copies.
Fraser was honored with a doctorate of Philosophy in the sacred space of music by the Trinity International Bible University.
She was 56-year-old.
Her family has asked the public to give the family space, as they are processing her untimely death to deal with the tragic loss to the family.
Details of Fraser’s funeral will be communicated at a later stage.
