Relekile Secondary, Saaiplas Primary to represent Lejweleputswa at YRAC provincials!

Relekile Secondary and Saaiplas Primary schools will represent the Lejweleputswa district at the Youth Recreation Arts and Culture (YRAC) provincial debate competition to in Bethlehem on 07-08 September.

The Lejweleputswa Department of Education held multiple debate and public speaking competitions from municipal level under the YRAC programme. These competitions took place over a span of three weeks in eight towns.

Present at the district public speaking competition held in Wesselsbron were the nine schools that qualified from the municipal level.

Participants were judged on individual capacities. Saaiplas Primary secured duo 1st positions in the grade 1-3 story-telling and grade 4-6 public speaking categories. Although the foundation phase category ended at district level, the school has made their mark.

Relekile Secondary obtained 1st and 2nd positions in the grade 10-11 and grade 7-9 public speaking categories respectively.

On Friday, August 18th, the much anticipated district debate competition took place. Eight schools ( four high schools and four primaries) showcased their critical thinking skills as they proudly represented their municipalities.

In the primary school division, Tjantjello obtained 2nd position whilst Saaiplas took the 1st place, after battling in the finals.

Representing Masilonyana municipality, Ipopeng Secondary obtained 3rd position and Matjhabeng municipality came in 2nd, represented by St Anne THS. The Tswelopele municipality was once again made proud by Relekile Secondary as it came in 1st place.

Although all these schools showed remarkable talents and skills, only those in first positions will get to represent the district.

YRAC is a programme from the Curriculum Enrichment Unit, designed to promote language proficiency, critical thinking, confidence, etc. All its activities and programmes have a direct bearing on the school’s curriculum, hence their effectiveness show on learners performance.
