Lejweleputswa district has become the latest municipality to gear up for female leadership to set the standards and make historical output in Category C municipalities within the country.
A cloudy Thursday, saw the council welcoming the former Free State Department of Sports, Art, Culture and Recreation’s MEC, Mathabo Leeto and the enthusiastic long-serving ANC member Veronica Ntakumbana taking over reins.
Ntakumbana who takes charge as the new mayor, is in tune to score clean audits for the municipality and serve residents from all walks of life in the five municipalities.

The municipality which incorporates of five municipalities under its wing, has previously been red flagged with the exception of irregularities, fruitless and wasteful expenditure as according to the Auditor General report.
This traces back from five financial years where in 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/2019 and 2019/20, as the municipality battled to score a clean audit.
However, this could only be a turnout point for the incoming Ntakumbana to bring new dawn in the municipality and serve residents with prominence distinction.
Ntakumbana steps in the shoes of the outgoing Sebenzile Ngangelizwe who has been with the municipality for years, having served in both Matjhabeng and Lejweleputswa municipalities.
The Nyakallong-born and daughter of the African soil, Leeto has served in several public sector offices for a long period, where she has vast experience of serving the communities.

Having served as the mayor of Matjhabeng local municipality and as the MEC for Sports, Arts & Culture and Recreation, Leeto takes over the reins as the speaker of the district council.
The duo’s inaugurations follows aftermath the municipal election recently held on 1 November, where the ANC within the district garnered over five sitting councils across its five municipalities, after the ruling party walked away with 50.61% across the province.
