A 19-year-old Grade 11 learner who was kidnapped more than 20 days ago has been found alive and five suspects have been arrested in connection with his abduction.
The Martie du Plessis School pupil was rescued by the Free State Police Task team in Wepener, in the early hours of today, 27 June.
Speaking on behalf of the SAPS, Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said five suspects have been apprehended in connection with the abduction of Kamogelo Baukudi.
“We can confirm that we embarked on an operation this morning in an area where our intelligence-driven information took us. That is where we managed to arrest five suspects. Three of these suspects were found on the road in one of the townships, with the victim himself,” said Makhele.

Police efforts have been widely praised, with education activist Hendrick Makaneta commending officers for their dedication in tracking down the suspects and safely recovering the teenager.
“The bravery and dedication of the police in tracking down the suspects and bringing Kamogelo home safely is truly commendable,” Makaneta said.
“We also want to acknowledge the Free State Education MEC, Manthlake Julia Maboya, for her tireless appeals to the community to assist in finding Kamogelo. Her leadership and concern for the well-being of learners in the province are truly appreciated.
“We are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of learners in our schools and communities,” stressed Makaneta.
