KZN floods | Death toll climbs to 259 amid devastating flashy floods

Devastating flashy floods in KwaZulu-Natal has claimed over 259 lives, according to latest revelations of the data collected today.

The death toll has raised significantly for the three consecutive three days, where people’s homestead were destroyed by the floods.

Many people are still missing and thousands of others have been displaced.

Over 200 people have been confirmed dead in KwaZulu-Natal since this past weekend, however the number is expected to rise as more people are being found.

The floods have caused a lot of destruction in the province, these destructions are inclusive of; submerging vehicles, destroying road and property and also overflowing rivers.

The KZN Department of Education spokesperson, Nkosinathi Ngcobo confirmed that a total of 248 schools has been damaged.

President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the province to assess devastating scenes.

He highlighted that a certain home, has lost over 10 family members whereby their house collapsed and they were washed away by water.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has passed her heartfelt condolences to the families that lost their loved ones.

According to the South African Weather Services, some parts of the country will still experience more rain in this coming long Easter weekend.

People who live in flood-prone areas were also advised to move to higher ground, should warning of floods be provided.
