In an attempt to steal stock at De Rust Farm, in Virginia, SAPS members acted swiftly to act upon the thuggery incident that resulted unsuccessfully, and the local authorities returned the stock back to the farmer who applauded SAPS members for their instant call.
In a statement released by SAPS, Spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng addressed, “On Saturday, the 31 July 2021 at about 18:15 Virginia Rural Safety Coordinators, Warrant Officers Mosisi Lehloma, Moeketsi Nkhobo, Constable Sello Nkhobo and Crime Intelligence received information about a possible stock theft at the nearest farm in the district of Virginia.
On their arrival, 70 sheep including lambs valued over R165 000 were found hidden on a vacant land,” a statement read.
According to an issued statement, a preliminary investigation was conducted by local authorities, thereafter, the owner of the livestock, Jaco Piennar was contacted.
“He was called to the scene and identified the sheep as his livestock,” revealed Captain Thakeng.
He related to the SAPS members that he was not aware about missing live stock until he was phoned by members of Rural Safety Coordinators of Virginia.
It is further reported that, with appreciation of receiving his livestock, Pienaar opted not to open a case against the perpetrators of thuggery occurrence.
