Family of murdered teacher battles to cope – ‘We struggle to barely sleep’

The family of slain Free State educator who was allegedly killed by a school pupil says they battle to comprehend the sudden loss of their loved one, and they have called for justice to prevail.

According to the Free State department of education, the brutally butchered physical science teacher, named Matefo Mphosela was assassinated by a 21-year-old matriculant at Kagisano Combined School in Soutpan, a small farm township just miles away from Brandfort.

“The learner who is in police custody attacked and stabbed the teacher at her house at around 9pm on Thursday,” said the department in a statement.

While the motive for the killing is not known, the family of the slain teacher described this sad loss as a sharp knife that ripped their hearts.

“We are struggling to barely sleep at night, we really can’t cope, we never anticipated that such cruelty can happen to our beloved sister,” said the family member to the deceased.

“I’m in pain. I don’t know what to do. All I want is justice to prevail this has brought nothing but sorrow to our family,” revealed the aunt of Mphosela.

The school mourned the passing of Mphosela, who the principal described as hardworking and committed.

Meanwhile, education MEC in the province, Tate Makgoe has expressed grief at this cruel murder, and said he will visit the school tomorrow, Monday, October 24 to convey his deepest condolences.

“Following the brutal killing of Grade 12 Physical Science teacher, Mme Mphosela, we will tomorrow at 10:00 visit Kagisano CS in Soutpan. This to convey message of condolences to the learners, teachers and the entire Soutpan community for their loss,” Makgoe said.

The department condemned the incident which occurred as the final exams were to start.
