Eskom announced the implementation of stage two loadshedding from Wednesday, 02 February 2022 at 11:00 till Monday, 07 February 2022, at 05:00am.
The company has stated the the measure to be necessary due to generation incapacity, following duo recent breakdowns of generating units during the night.
South Africa’s biggest power supply company has also announced they have “utilised significant amount of emergency generating reserves, which have now depleted and need to be replenished.” The period of the loadshedding will be used to replenish these emergency generating units.
Total breakdowns amount tpo14 994MW, whilst planned maintenance is 4 435MW.
Three generating units are expected to return to service by this afternoon.
In a statement, Eskom pleaded to South Africans to help limit the rate of loadsheddings by reducing electricity usage and switching off non-essential items.
