Eskom blackouts: Fed-up SAns calls for De Ruyter’s head over load shedding

With latest updates emanating from Eskom’s headquarters in Sandton, Gauteng, the troubled power utility escalated load shedding to Stage 4 on Monday afternoon.

Eskom made a shocking announcement, indicating that it will escalate load shedding to Stage 4 load from 17:00 to 22:00, due to generational units loss of 720MW at Kusile power station.

Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said, “While this unit has since returned to service, it will slowly load up to full capacity during the night.

This necessitates Stage 4 load shedding to be implemented from 17:00 to 22:00,” Mantshantsha said.

On Sunday, the strained power supplier said it will implement Stage 3 of load shedding from today at 17:00 to 22:00, due to loss of units, however, tables turned at the eleventh hour on Monday.

During the virtual briefing, Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter said the entity suffered 11,852MW in full losses of generational capacity. Partial losses stood at 4,455MW.

Fed-up South Africans took to Twitter where they dissed both the management at Eskom and the government for their failure to keep the lights on.

Angry and aggravated citizens lashed out at Eskom CEO, calling for his head to be sacked:
