E-hailing services across Gauteng are on a standstill, this follows a three-day shutdown where e-hailing service drivers embarked on a peaceful strike at the Union Buildings today.
The three-day shutdown is set to run concurrently until Thursday, 24 March.
In a released statement disseminated to the media, e-hailing drivers tabled down three demands which are inclusive of: salary increment, as they allege that there’s a petrol hike, safety of e-hailing drivers and passengers must be put into consideration as well as exploitations.
All e-hailing apps such as Uber Eats, Bolt, DiDi and InDriver have shut down with effect from today, as employees are handing over the memorandum to the higher presidential office.
The march will then head to the offices of the Gauteng department of roads and Transport, where protesters will submit a list of their grievances to MEC Jacob Mamabolo.
In a statement, it is addressed that on the last day of the shutdown, all e-hailing apps will shut down as all e-hailing companies do not get an income.
“Anyone working during the strike it will be his or her own risk,” said marchers in a issued statement
“All drivers and/or partners should attend the strike in Pretoria ( Marabastad old Putco Parking) and Johannesburg (Zoolake),” statement further read.
