A 32-year-old mine worker appeared before the Welkom Magistrate Court, for his bail application after he was arrested for being in possession of an illegal firearm and live ammunition.
The Magistrate Court postponed the case to next week, June 14.
“On Monday, 06 June, a 17-year-old boy was at New Stands section in Thabong, when he was robbed a cellphone by an unknown man at gun point. Community members who witnessed the incident gave chase and caught the man,” reveals Lejweleputswa district police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng.
“While they were busy questioning him, he managed to away and dropped the firearm on the ground. An unknown man grabbed the firearm from the ground and left the scene.
“The incident was reported to Thabong police station and preliminary investigations revealed that the man hid the firearm at his residential place,” explained Thakeng.
Thakeng says that the alleged house was identified and approached by the police, and the officials found an illegal firearm hidden underground.
“Atang Nkoka, who is a mine worker was arrested for an unlicensed firearm and one life ammunition,” Thakeng said.
