The police are on hunt for a man accused of setting his girlfriend’s shack on fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The horrific incident happened in Thabong, Bochabela street, next to Thotagauta Secondary School.
According to the neighbours, it is believed that the boyfriend intensified to burn down the whole shack after the two partners had an altercation at a local tarven on Monday evening.
“At 2am, the boyfriend burnt down the shack, then we as the residents we took an initiative to go and stop the fire blaze,” said one of the bystanders.
The witness said another tenant tipped the landlord that the shack was on fire, that’s when, the landlord called neighbours for assistance,” addressed the bystander.

According to the landlord of the premise Sellwane Rasedimo, she said she has known the couple for years, and the victim, who’s her tenant is devastated of this tragedy.
She furthermore addressed that the couple have two children, in which are aged ten years and five years old.
While sharing the predicaments of the horrific incident, Rasedimo confirmed to Kasi Voice News that the couple had a spat over the alleged R20 that the girlfriend received at the tarven.
“They were fighting over a R20 that was offered by one of the passerby in a tarven, then that’s where the altercation started and the parties fought on the spot,” said the landlord.
“The boyfriend then suggested to burn the whole shack, as he claims he bought everything from the shack,” said the Landlord.
The police were then called to the scene, and the case of arson was opened.
We can confirm that a case of arson has been registered after the complainant left her shack house on the 2 December 2021 she rented at about 12:00 to visit her parents place.
While Kasi Voice News, made follow up pertaining the registration of the case, Welkom spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said, “On Saturday, 4 December 2021 at about 02:00 she was informed by her landlord that her shack has burnt down. She was also informed that her boyfriend arrived carrying a bottle of paraffin.
“He was bleeding from a cut wound on his cheek. He stated that he was going to burn the shack because his girlfriend was cheating,” addressed captain Thakeng.
Thakeng said a case has been registered and the manhunt has been launched to trace the fleeing suspect.
“Should anyone saw Xolile the Police must be contacted urgently as he might assist the Police of Thabong with their investigation of this arson case. Police Emergency number 08600 10111,” said Thakeng.
Residents are urged to assist the family with clothes, shelter or any form of assistance in this hard times.
