Bloemfontein Celtic are looking to regain their place at South African football’s elite feeding table sooner rather than later.
As things stand, it is believed that the owner, Max Tshabalala, is targeting the PSL status of a current team in the league and they are confident Siwelele will once again rise.
It has now emerged that the club could be looking to make a much swifter return – by buying out a PSL franchise.
In 2021, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) approved the sale of cash-strapped Bloemfontein Celtic to Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize.
The much-beloved Free State outfit relocated to KwaZulu-Natal and was renamed Royal AM.
Celtic which currently plays in the third-tier ABC Motsepe League, is gunning for a PSL status.
Celtic have played a major role in the history of South African football.
They were founded in 1969 and won the SAA Supa 8 back in 2005. Furthermore, the club has been a home for household names such as John Maduka, Lehlohonolo Seema, Jimmy Johnstone, Timothy Batabaire, Shadreck Biemba, Musa Bilankulu and Moses Spandeel.
The club was also known for its passionate fanbase, which backed it unflinchingly through the inclines and declines over the years.
