Update | Magashule’s corruption trial postponed to 10 June

Fraud and corruption pre-trial hearing against former Free State premier Ace Magashule has been postponed to 10 June 2022 by the Bloemfontein High Court.

Magushe, who is now on suspension from his role as ANC secretary-general, appeared before the High Court, where his corruption case and pretrial hearing was supposed to get underway today, 21 February.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) stated that is not ready to prosecute the accused.

The case has been dragging for over past two years.

Magashule and his 15 co-accused, are facing fraud, corruption and money laundering 21 charges related to the alleged irregular awarding of a R255m asbestos tender.

The state has filed papers to have Magashule’s former PA extradited from the US to provide evidence.

The four accused have asked for charges to be withdrawn, as they want prosecutors to supply them with a list of witnesses implicating them & further particulars.

The defiant Magashule has disputed charges pinned on him by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and has further insisted that this case is politically motivated.

Magashule has been suspended as the party’s secretary-general and his political career is on a knife’s edge, should he be found guilty on the alleged corruption case.
