A traditional court in Zimbabwe has ordered body of former president Robert Mugabe’s body to be exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre.
“Mugabe’s widow, Grace Mugabe broke local customs when she gave the go ahead for him to be laid to rest in Kutama,” court said.
Mugabe passed away in 2019 at the age of 95, two years after he was ousted in a military coup and replaced by current Zimbambwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
On 26 September 2019, Nick Mangwana stated that Mugabe would be buried in his home town of Kutama “to respect the wishes of families of deceased heroes”.
The burial took place on 28 September in a courtyard of his family home.
According to a judgement tabled by Regional magistrate Ruth Moyo, found that Bona, Bellarmine and Tinotenda Mugabe had no say in the saga surrounding their father’s reburial as it directly involved their mother, former first lady Grace Mugabe.
