Ramaphosa gives green light to July 2021 unrest report release

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the release of the July 2021 unrest report on Monday, 07 February 2022.

After the spike of violence and property destruction in July 2021, Ramaphosa appointed a panel and tasked them to review security services’ preparedness for July events.

The president said he will outline government’s first actions during the State of Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, 10 February 2022.

On Friday, 04 February 2022, Police Minister, Bheki Cele, spent the day testifying at the South African Human Rights Commission investigating July unrest’s cause.

During the commission, the minister said he foresaw the situation hence he went to Nkandla in an attempt to defuse the ticking time bomb.

Former president, Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment sparked the July unrest which claimed 337 lives in an explosion of violence and mayhem.
