Minister Stella Abrahams allocates R40 million for businesses in Lejweleputswa

Speaking during the ministerial roadshow on Tuesday , minister for small business development, Stella Abrahams has asserted that her department has made available R40-million for small businesses within Lejweleputswa district.

Abrahams embarked on a nationwide tour guide themed “Unlocking opportunities for SMMEs and co-operatives for economic growth and job creation”.

The department paid a special visit to Welkom, Free State, where the minister joined by Matjhabeng municipality mayor and other dignitaries engaged with small businesses within the district.

Amongst under-lying issues that were raised, entrepreneurs raised their concerns over lack of sufficent of support for their businesses.

With mounting pressure, Abrahams had to defend the government and take the fall for the government that has been keeping its promises but do not fulfill.

She took a swerve indicating that her department will now consult with various stakeholders in bid to assist businesses that are under financial constraints.

Amongst issues she raised, Abrahams said that other issue that creates a backlog for the department and its entity, Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) has to do with the red tapes.

“The main issue we are facing, it has to be the red-tapes,” said Abrahams.

Minister said the money that’s going to be allocated, will proportionally be utilized to enhance small businesses and assist with buying equipment for them.

Matjhabeng mayor Thanduxolo Khalipa reiterated to the words minister Abrahams, highlighting that the municipality together with Lejweleputswa district will ensure money is spent appropriately and to those who need it most.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Asanda Luwaca, who was also in presence, said the agency will offer assistance and encourage young people to participate in social cohesion and nation building activities.

“Young people / businesses were affected by this pandamic both socially and economically, but with this new team of leaders we will ensure that we help each and every person,” she said.
