Meet vision-orientated Serame Phakisi who wears many hats!

Emma Thompson once said, “ Being disabled should not mean being disqualified from having access to every aspect of life,”.

This phrase is applicable in today’s world to encourage people living with disability to do better and to give them hope that they can reach the stars.

Serame Phakisi is a 24-year-old who lives with a disability, but he didn’t let his situation to hinder his success in life.

Phakisi told Kasi Voice News that, as a person living with disability he was fortunate enough to start walking only at the age of five years.

Serame said that despite failing two grades in primary school, he became one of top achievers in secondary school.

The resilient dream chaser significantly highlighted that, during his school days he dwelled into extra mural activities, partaking a leading role in public speaking, athletics and in music concerts.

“I managed to get the opportunity to be part of the choir in school and I also entered for the competition,” said Serame.

The Welkom-born star wear many belts, he attainted Diploma in Civil Engineering from Goldfields TVET College in 2018. Recently, he graduated in Advance Academy in 2020.

Failure is part of life and it determines our capabilities. Serame said that even though he passed few subjects at at the Goldfields College’s Welkom campus where he enrolled for Office Administration, he is grateful that he managed to see where his weakness lies.

In terms of sports, Serame said that, he was grateful to be granted an opportunity to play for Matjhabeng Disability football club and later he was promoted to play for Region Lejweleputswa team.

In the year 2020, Serame launched a Non-profit organization (NPO) Embrace Ambition Organization.

The NPO assists people particularly those living with disability, with food and necessities.

Serame said because of the love for school children, he took an opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant at Tsakani Primary school.

In conclusion, Serame urged community members to donate clothes and sanitary towel, for his NPO to donate these items to the less fortunate people on the upcoming Mandela day.
