MEC Makgoe condemns violent attack after educator assaulted by parent and learner

Free State Education MEC, Dr Tate Makgoe has strongly criticised the horrific scene of assault after an educator was attacked by one of the learners and his parent at the school premises in Botshabelo.

According to Free State spokesperson Howard Ndaba, it is alleged that the barbaric incident happened on Thursday, at Setjhaba se Maketse Combined School after the father of the grade 11 learner came to the school together with his child, and they physically assaulted the educator.

It is further addressed that teaching and learning was disrupted due to the incident.

The disgruntled Makgoe said, the department condemns the assault of the teacher in full view of the learners and teachers in a strongest possible term.

“Safety of our teachers and learners is so paramount for the conducive learning and teaching, therefore is non-negotiable, Makgoe addressed.

“Tomorrow department’s officials will visit the school to establish facts and provide psycho social support to learners and teachers who witnessed this incident,” he added.

He further stated that the officials will also investigate the matter involving the learner and will take appropriate action.
