Manhunt underway after cattle stolen in Odendaalsrus

Police in Odendaalsrus have launched a manhunt for livestock thieves.

This follows 70 cattle that were stolen at one of the farmers’ kraal in Ontevrede farm, Odendaalsrus on Saturday, 5 February at about 06:00.

According to Lejweleputswa media liaison officer captain Stephen Thakeng, the police and the farmer followed up the tracks which led to the discovery of 64 cattle and six cattle were found slaughtered.

“The incident was reported to Lejweleputswa stock theft and endangered species unit, who followed up the tracks,” said Thakeng.

“It took them 8km from the crime scene until the cattle were found and identified by the owner.

“64 cattle were found and handed back to the owner, six cattle were found slaughtered.

“Nobody was found at the scene and a case of stock theft has been registered for further investigation,” said Thakeng.

The police has since launched a manhunt to trace the stock-theft thieves.
