Long-serving Lesedi FM News Anchor bows out

Ramatsoso Mokebe has bid farewell to the loyal listeners of Lesedi FM as he hangs the microphone after having spent 38 years with the public broadcaster.

The beloved ‘Papa Kebeza’ as he’s well known made his last appearance at the Makumane A Mona Le Mane, the morning current affairs programme show on Friday, 30 April 2021.

In his show, the sensational morning host received heartwarming calls from previous and current colleagues paying their tribute to this catalyst of the radio.

“Papa Kebeza you became one of the best mentors. Thanks for showing me the corridors of SABC and making me a perfectionist of being the news anchor,” said Rabosana Madiehe, who used to be alongside Mokebe on Makumane A Mona Le Mane.

Mokebe who joined Lesedi FM in 1983, says that it has been a delighting experience to serve the SABC and be at the centre of educating masses with latest developments and ground breaking news.

He furthermore said, “I developed love for radio when I was still in Primary school, I used to listen radio dramas, news and music.”

“I am guided by the passion to inform and educate, that’s what made me to remain in the station for over 30 years,” he added.

Mokebe was amongst a group of 621 employees served with retrenchment letters at the SABC.

The retrenchment process at SABC occurs after the board announced last year that it would undergo with Section 189, a turnaround plan that is planned to reposition the public broadcaster to become financial sustainable.

The organisation said it will trim its R2.4 billion annual salary bill of 3,167 employees.
