Loadshedding returns with Stage 2 until Wednesday, says Eskom

South Africans need to brace themselves for another dark week as Eskom implements Stage 2 loadshedding this afternoon with immediate effect.

The embattled power utility, made this shocking announcement in a released statement with 30 minutes before Stage 2 is rolled out.

Eskom said Stage 2 loadshedding will start at 16:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday, 20 April.

“The loss of four additional generation units at Matla, Tutuka , Durva and Arnota power stations over the past 24 hours, exacerbated delay in units returning to service at Camden, Matla, Grootvlei and Tutuka power stations, unfortunately necessitated the implementation of loadshedding,” said the power utility.

“The power system continues to be fragile and eskom is forced to implement loadshedding to manage and replenish emergency generation reserves, on which it has been relying to supply electricity this week,” added Eskom.

On a further note, Eskom said it has 5 474MW on planned maintenance, while another 17 018MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned breakdowns.

Eskom further urged South Africans to use electricity sparingly.
