Eskom’s spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha has warned the public of a possible load shedding, due to the power system being severely constrained.
“There are a number of generating units expected to return to service during the day today but the likelihood of load shedding is high and may be required at short notice, most likely during the evening peaks between 17:00 and 22:00,” Mantshantsha said.
Mantshantsha further entailed that, with shortage of generation capacity, this could result in the power system being constrained on from this evening until next few weeks.
In a statement, Eskom said “We had 5,232MW on planned maintenance, while another 14,623MW was unavailable because of breakdowns.”
The embattled power utility, urged residents to limit the impact of the shortages by using electricity sparingly especially between 5am and 9am in the mornings as well as 4pm and 10pm in the evenings.
