The embattled power utility, Eskom, has announced that Stage 2 load shedding will return at 17:00 today, and will continue until 05:00 on Wednesday morning.
“As previously communicated, loadshedding was suspended at 05:00 this morning. However, due to the continued shortage of generation capacity, Eskom regrets to inform the public that Stage 2 loadshedding will again be implemented, said the power utility.
Yesterday afternoon, Eskom kicked-off with Stage 2 load shedding, after Unit 5 of Medupi Power Station tripped, but it was later called off.
However, at 08:00 this morning, Eskom issued a statement, where it announced that due to ongoing constrained supply situation, this has caused the power utility to recall Stage 2 load shedding once again.
“Unit 5 of Medupi Power Station returned to service during the night. Three generating units at the Camden Power Station tripped during the night, contributing to the current shortage of capacity.
We currently have 4 804MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 449MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned breakdowns,” said Eskom in a statement.
Eskom further said the overnight loadshedding will be used to replenish the dam level at the pump storage power stations in preparation for the remainder of this week.
