Former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has been summoned to pay back R10 million he gained as a pension fund, this was ruled by the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
Molefe’s case of paying back the money dates back in the year 2018, whereby he unlawful received Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (EPPF).
Molefe failed to settle to the amount, after he alleged that he had no knowledge that of the money he was ought to payback.
Molefe said that, in 2016, he was only 50 years and Eskom mistakenly approved his early retirement.
According to Eskom’s early retirement policy, it is only granted when you are at least 55-years-old.
“We find that Mr Molefe was never entitled to receive any pension benefits from Eskom Pension Fund and the payment in lieu of such benefits were patently unlawful,” the court said at that time.
When former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela exposed that Molefe was working with Gupta family in 2016, Molefe then resigned from Eskom.
Molefe is now ordered to pay a total amount of close to R10 million with an interest that is calculated from late October 2019 until date.
