SABC launches streaming service ahead of FIFA World Cup

SABC +, the company’s long-awaited OTT platform, was launched this morning at Sandton, Johannesburg.

Just in time for the FIFA World Cup which will be taking place in Qatar on November 20, 2022, the SABC will distribute the SABC + app through Hisense’s VIDAA Smart TVs and mobile devices through a partnership with the global leader in consumer electronics and home appliances.

As a team, these two powerhouses will present 28 matches from the FIFA World Cup daily, as well as the official FIFA World Cup show for free. 

Among the features of the SABC + streaming app will be 19 radio stations and 3 free-to-air TV channels, SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3, as well as SABC Sport Channel and SABC News Channel.

Moreover, the app will include local and international content, which will enhance the Corporation’s mission of informing, educating and entertaining citizens.

According to Group Chief Executive Office of The South African Broadcasting Corporation Mr Madoda Mxakwe, SABC + signals a new digital era for the SABC and a key accomplishment in addressing universal access for all citizens.

SABC + app also presents a growth path to enhancing our value offering to clients and customers to build a strong foundation for future financial sustainability of the SABC” said Madoda.

He also added that providing cutting-edge content to the public is the SABC’s sole mandate, and they are glad to be able to fulfill that mandate through a technology company such as Hisense.
