Meet self-taught developer, Lereko Qholosha

Back in the days it was not possible to enter one of the high paying fields without traditional qualifications, but in present times, all is possible.

All thanks to improvements made by technology that has made dreams to become a reality without having to spend years at the University.

A thriving Lereko Qholosha, is amongst a list of one of the few who have set their sights to greater standards.

He became a self-taught developer and he co-founded a tech startup known as DataSpeak, that specialises in data science and machine learning.

The 24-year-old told Kasi Voice News that learning python, meaning, one of programming languages found himself landing a breakthrough opportunity as he scooped data scientist job.

“Data gives you power, you have to understand algorithms in order to get started,” he said.

Qholosha further said that, youth should train their minds to think logically rather than being emotional when a certain problem emerge.

The tech enthusiast, currently work as a developer at an accounting firm, and during his past time he do his web development work, as he denied to channel himself into one stream in life.

Learning something new is very challenging. Qholosha highlighted three challenging things that he met when he was self teaching.

“Learning to program on the rural areas like Matatiele is challenging, my main challenge was lack of internet,” said self-motivated entrepreneur.

“Other thing that I faced as a newbie in the self-taught path was to find worthwhile and relevant learning resources for myself,” he said.

He also told Kasi Voice News that he was unemployed at the time, so he could struggle to buy data to browse through the internet, connect with people and do peace jobs,” he explained.

Qholosha mentioned that he faced difficulties in running his tech startup. The challenges includes, cash flow management, imposter syndrome and marketing his business to potential clients out there.

Qholosha said that even though life is unpredictable at times, he see himself as a senior data scientist in the next decade, working with international people.
