Free State to build 52 technical schools for coding, robotics

Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe has promised to build 52 schools aimed at driving fourth industrial revolution that are inclusive of coding and robotics.

Makgoe made the announcement during the School Infrastructure Lekgotla in Bloemfontein, where he was launching the ‘No Racism, No Bullying‘ campaign, yesterday August 22.

He said this will be done to address the shortage of technical schools in Free State, despite the province’s success over past years.

“Free State government will go technical fully, as we are aiming for Fourth Industrial Revolution-ready subjects,” says Makgoe.

Makgoe asserted that 52 technical schools will be constructed in all its 52 education districts in the province in an effort to improve technical skills among young people.

“We also want to focus on sports, agriculture and hospitality infrastructure that will aid the production of quality school graduates and create employment,” added Makgoe.

Education MEC also highlighted that infrastructure that caters for careers of the future such as robotics and coding are in the pipeline.

During the State of the Nation Address (SoNA, President Cyril Ramaphosa said his administration’s plans for basic education is to prepare young people for the jobs of the future.
