At times, it is often thought that having a tertiary qualification opens doors to employment, but that is not always a case.
According to latest statistics by the Statistics SA, the youth unemployment rate currently sits at 66,5%, inclusive of unemployed graduates.
Entrepreneurship in most cases it closes gap for unemployment, and the Limpopo-proud born, Faith Maringa is one of those youth who survive with her bunny chow business, that is popularly known as ‘Kota’.
Faith is a 27-year-old, who holds a national diploma in Human Resource.
She runs a fast food, modeled as Dokodela’s corner.
The self-motivated Maringa says, at other times, passion and hobbies might be a way to make money for others.
“I decided to take my cooking passion into making money to pay bills while job hunting at the same time,” said the goal-oriented entrepreneur.
Tshwane University of Technology alumni further told Kasi Voice News, that for her started the business with her brother after they looked at the unemployment rate in the country.
At the moment, Faith sell her fast food in her home town, Giyani, Limpopo.
“We serve chips and Kota in our community, Giyani, Siyandhani village,” she added.
Faith further said that her inspiration came from her mother who was a street vendor before owning a Spaza shop – a mini supermarket.
Faith urged youth to create opportunities for themselves, “no one may rescue them when hunger strikes,” she said.
“Even if you believe that you can move a mountain, but if you don’t go up and remove it, the mountain will remain there, remember that faith without work is dead. Let’s work,” she concluded.
Owning a business comes up with challenges. Faith highlighted that load shedding usually becomes a stumbling block at sometime.
She says this affects her business to flourish, she depends on an electric fryer.
She says that, with the little she makes, she’s saving to buy a gas stove to work effeciently.
