Eskom has announced that Stage 2 load shedding will run concurrently from 17:00 this afternoon until Thursday, due to the continued shortages of generation capacity.
The troubled power utility previously issued a warning that load shedding could possibly be implemented from today, as it has 5 232MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 202MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
In a statement, Eskom said “We will continue to closely monitor the system, adjust and communicate any changes as may be necessary.
We appeal to all South Africans to help limit the impact of the shortages by continuing to reduce the usage of electricity and to switch off all non-essential items,” addressed Eskom in a statement.
Eskom further cautioned that, as the shortage of generation capacity continues, the system will continue to be constrained with an elevated risk of load shedding over the coming weeks.
Last month, Energy Analyst, Ted Blom said load shedding is likely to occur until next year in April.
He said that he acquired a well-detailed brief about Eskom’s plans to roll out load shedding until next year. “From what I have seen, it shows that there’s a high probability of load shedding for 48 weeks. That means less than five weeks with no load shedding,” said Blom in May.
