SA residents alarmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stern warning

As the entire world reels from Russia’s attack on Ukraine, South Africans are trembling and dazed by recent remarks made by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, that any country that wishes to interfere with the on-going Russia-Ukraine war will face consequences.

South Africans are worried after minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor announced that they were trying to calm the storm.

Pandor made starling comments on the on-going conflict after she called for the UN Security Council to “play its role in the search for peace”.

“The world does not need another war, as that will result in death and destruction, hence our call for enhanced diplomacy,” Pandor said on Wednesday.

All parties have much to gain from a negotiated outcome and much to lose from an unnecessary and violent conflict,”

Citizens have flooded social media to join in the global reaction to Putin ordering a “special military operation” in Ukraine.

Putin claimed the move was to “protect” the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine and said there was a need to “demilitarise” the country.

Many said the government should not get involved in the conflict, while others asked how South Africans in Ukraine would be helped.
