Former President Jacob Zuma appointed a judicial commission of inquiry into allegations of state capture, corruption and fraud in the public sector in 2018, following the remedial action by then Public Protector advocate Thuli Madonsela, after she raised concerns on allegations of state capture.

The commission took over four years, at an estimated cost of R1-billion to unearth corruption at state entities, where state owned enterprises and spheres of government collapsed.

Since its establishment, notable politicians and businessmen were implicated in the corruption allegations, that defrauded the state.

Ex-state headman Zuma, former Free State Premier Ace Magashule, former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, current Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe, Gupta’s family and other top officials were implicated in the state capture report.

Today, the fifth and final instalment of the state capture commission of inquiry’s findings is finally set to be submitted to the president, marking it the last report since the first release of the state capture report in January, earlier this year.

The release of the report is part of the country’s effort to definitively end the era of state capture and to restore the integrity, credibility and capability of government institutions.
