The Welkom K9 Unit arrested an undocumented immigrant in Kgotsong, Bothaville, during visible policing activities yesterday.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the K9 Unit noticed a suspicious looking person who attempted to flee upon seeing the police.
“The police then approached the man and requested to accompany him to his residence,” added Thakeng.
Upon arrival, a request was made to search the premises, and permission was granted. During the search, the police found 192 Mandrax tables hidden in a speaker in the living room.
“These tablets had a street value of R11 500,” informed Thakeng.
Furthermore, the man had no travelling or immigration documents to be in the country.
As a result of all the items found in the house and the inability to produce immigration documents, the police arrested the man.
“The 30-year-old foreign national will appear before the Bothaville Magistrate Court on Monday, 26 June. He will face charges of illegal immigration and possession of suspected Mandrax tablets,” Thakeng concludes.
