Elderly woman (75) loses ‘swindled’ drugs money after Hawks obtains preservation order

An elderly woman aged 75 hailing from Qwa Qwa, has lost a bid to secure a drug money worth R160 000, after the Hawks Priority Crime Specialised Investigation team notably known as PCSI, were given a green light of a preservation order by the Bloemfontein High Court.

The accused, Evelyn Mosikili’s house was raided by the police in November 2022, and they discovered drugs and a money with a whopping fee of R160 000.

According to Hawks media liaison officer Fikiswa Matoti, the police received a tip-off of the drug operation in the house of the elderly and they descended to the area for an intense search, this is where they discovered the drugs.

“Drugs and money totalling more than R160 000 were found by police during the search. After being questioned about drugs and money, the suspect attempted to entice the police officers in order to avoid being arrested,” Matoti said.

Matoti said the issue involving the cash discovered in the home was reported to the Hawks and NPA.

The PCSI, the Asset Forfeiture unit, and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) in Bloemfontein applied for a preservation order as part of the ongoing investigation into Mosikili’s alleged dealing in drugs. This culminated with the high court granting the police an order on 20 July.

The accused is currently out of prison walls on bail amounting to R500, and she will stand trial in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates’ Court on 13 September.
