The boxing fraternity is bursting into tears following the passing of South African boxer, Simiso Buthelezi who has succumbed to his brain injury.
The Boxing South Africa (BSA) confirmed Buthelezi’s death today, June 8.
A 24-year-old young promising fighter was admitted to the hospital in Durban past weekend, and he was induced to a coma.
During his final round bout against Siphesihle Mntungwa, Buthelezi was found to have bleeding on the brain, officials immediately called an end to the fight and he was rushed to hospital, as he was unconscious.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, scans were taken and they revealed the extent of the damage to his brain.
While messages of tributes are flooding in, the BSA said they will conduct an independent medical review of the incident.
