Family meeting: President Ramaphosa to address the nation at 8pm

President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation this evening at 20:00, on latest developments regarding Covid-19 pandemic.

The President’s address follows the convened meeting held on Saturday, that involved the President’s coordinating council together with the national coronavirus command council.

The address will be broadcasted and streamed on various platforms accessible to South Africans and international audiences.

According to a reliable source, the country will remain on alert Level 1. There will be no major changes to restrictions as government moves to increase vaccinations

According to a source, Ramaphosa considered establishing a task team to look into the mandatory vaccinations issue; and the exclusion of the non-vaccinated!

Sunday’s meeting with the country’s premiers and mec’s also focused on the new omicron coronavirus variant’s impact detected in Botswana and SA.

The discovery of the variant led to countries shutting its borders Southern African travelers.

Soon after closing boarders to African travellers, countries across the globe, closed borders to each other and implemented strict quarantines.

South Africa has thus far recorded new 3 220 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 2 958 548.

The death toll stood at 89 791, after eight more deaths were reported.
